UK Methane Ltd have submitted a Planning Application to Swansea Council to allow exploratory drilling for Coal Bed Methane on land off Bryntywod, Llangyfelach. If allowed to go ahead this could have a significant impact on the local community and environment.

The application is for deep drilling 24hrs a day over a period of several weeks.

Possible implications of this development are:

  • Pollution of local water courses due to accidents and spillages on site
  • Air, Noise and Light Pollution
  • Increased HGV movements on local roads
  • Damage to wildlife within the Llan Valley
  • Adverse impact on the health of local residents, especially children
  • Reduction of property values

There are some simple things you can do to help!

1. Please contact our local councillors

Ask them to have the application called in to the Planning Committee AND request that the deadline for responses be extended by at least two weeks to give local people time to properly consider the application.

2. Submit an objection

It is important as many objections as possible are lodged against this application. Please visit the Council website and search for Planning Application No. 2015/1515 and then click on 'Comment on Application'.

3. Attend a meeting
